Build Spotlight: Two Stretched Polaris RZR RS1 Builds at Sand Hollow

UTV Pros stretched Polaris RS1 crawling over sandstone at Sand Hollow

Our stretched Polaris RZR RS1 builds take the single-seat platform in a rock-crawling direction. These two videos follow separate UTV Pros projects at Sand Hollow, with Justin introducing each machine before putting it on the rocks.

Build one: the UTV Pros RS1.5

We stretched this Polaris RS1 20 inches, taking its wheelbase from 83 to 103 inches. The build pairs that longer wheelbase with an HCR long-travel kit, 17-inch Metal FX wheels, and 37-inch Maxxis Roxxzilla tires.

Supporting changes include a custom cage, driveline and skid plate, an extended wire loom, and lowered transmission gearing. The goal was a crawler-style buggy built around the RS1’s single-seat layout.

  • Wheelbase: 103 inches after a 20-inch stretch
  • Suspension: HCR long-travel kit
  • Wheels: 17-inch Metal FX (browse Metal FX wheels)
  • Tires: 37-inch Maxxis Roxxzilla
  • Supporting modifications: Custom cage, driveline and skid plate, extended wire loom, and lowered transmission gearing

During testing at Sand Hollow, Justin highlighted how the center driving position lets him see both front tires when picking a line. That visibility, along with what he describes as a well-balanced feel, is a big part of the appeal of this single-seat crawler.

Build two: another stretched RS1 hits Sand Hollow

The second video features another RS1 we had just finished stretching. Justin introduces the newly completed build at Sand Hollow, followed by a short look at it on the rocks.

This is a separate example of our stretched RS1 work. The Short focuses on the outing rather than a parts walkthrough, so the specifications listed above apply to the first build.

From fabrication to final setup

Our stretched RS1 work goes beyond a longer chassis and bolt-on parts. On this build, we fabricated a custom, triangulated roll cage and raised the rear trailing-arm mount to help keep it from hanging up on obstacles. The 20-inch stretch also called for a custom skid plate, driveline, and wiring harness.

The finished machine depends on how those changes work together. Transmission gearing and shock tuning are part of the same process as fabrication and parts selection. Our UTV fabrication work covers the initial chassis stretch through the final setup.

Testing is part of the development. We keep exploring what these machines can do, then use that experience to identify what we can change and improve on the next build.
