The First 5 Upgrades for a New Polaris RZR XP 1000

A new Polaris RZR XP 1000 is a blast the day you drive it off the lot. But a handful of upgrades make it tougher, safer, and more capable on the rock and sand around Southern Utah. Here is where we tell riders to start, roughly in order.

1. A front bumper that can take a hit

The factory bumper looks the part but bends on the first hard rock kiss. A steel or aluminum front bumper protects your radiator and front end and gives you a solid recovery point. Brands like AJK Offroad and DRT Motorsports build bumpers made for exactly this terrain.

2. Skid plates and rock sliders

Slickrock and ledges are hard on the underside of your machine. A full skid plate shields the belly, and rock sliders protect the frame and lower doors when you slide off a line. It is cheap insurance against expensive damage.

3. LED whips and lighting

If you ride the dunes or after dark, a whip makes you visible to other riders and good lighting keeps the trail safe. A quality whip from 5150 Whips and a light bar or pods from Baja Designs are two of the most popular first add-ons we install.

4. A tune or clutch kit

The XP 1000 has more to give. A clutch kit smooths power delivery and helps at altitude, and a tune wakes up throttle response. If you have added heavier tires or a lot of accessories, this is what keeps the machine feeling quick.

5. Suspension set up for you

The factory suspension is a starting point, not the finish line. Springs and shocks tuned to your weight and riding style transform how the RZR handles whoops and landings. HCR Suspension is a good place to look when you are ready.

Where to start

If you only do one thing first, protect the machine: bumper and skid plates. Everything after that is about making it yours. Not sure what fits your XP 1000, or want it installed right? Talk to our shop in Hurricane or browse RZR XP 1000 parts.
